What the app is for

I Need is a shared place for the things a household needs. Say “I need an innertube for the bike” or “I need a present for the party on Sunday” and it becomes an item on the right list, with the right date. It is not a chore tracker — it is the running list of what the house is short of.

Adding things

Tap the microphone and talk. You can say several things at once — “we're out of toothpaste and I need a present for the party by Friday” — and they'll be split into separate items on the appropriate lists. Everything is shown to you for review before it is saved, so nothing is added behind your back. If you'd rather type, use the keyboard button at the top of the Today screen.

Sharing with your family

Open the Family tab and use Invite to send a link. Anyone who accepts sees the same lists on their own device and can add to them. Sharing requires everyone to be signed in to iCloud on their device.

If things aren't syncing

The Family tab shows the current sync state and the time of the last successful sync. If it reports a problem:

• Check the device is signed in to iCloud, in Settings at the top of the list.
• Check iCloud Drive is switched on for I Need, under Settings › your name › iCloud.
• Sync pauses on Low Data Mode and Low Power Mode; both are worth ruling out.
• Give it a minute on a decent connection — changes are sent in the background and are not always instant.

If it still won't sync, email the address above with what the Family tab is reporting.

The board on iPad

On a wide screen the Today view becomes a board with a column per person, which is what makes an iPad useful in a kitchen. It appears on a device that no one has claimed, or when the person set as “You are” on the Family tab is an adult. If you're seeing a single list instead, check that setting.

Reminders

Items with a date can carry a reminder. These are local notifications, so they need notification permission — if you declined it when the app first launched, you can turn it back on in Settings › I Need › Notifications.

Your privacy

Nothing you say or type is collected. Speech is transcribed on your device, and your lists live in your own iCloud account. The full detail is in the privacy policy.
